Recently my wife and I spent a few days with one of WOW’s international partners. Over the course of those days we met with elderly widows living without family care, orphans, children living with HIV and/or various cancers, and special needs children, all of whom are being supported by our champion pastors and church-based volunteers. We were very touched as we distributed food, medicine, and sweets to these precious souls. And we were/are so grateful that our care is ongoing day by day, week by week, and year by year. Faithfulness is key to sustainability.

As we spent this moving time with what Jesus calls “the least of these” I was fully aware of the geopolitical turmoil rocking our world. Indeed, as we flew to this particular nation our flight path took us just a hundred miles or so past the Strait of Hormuz. From time to time, I looked out the plane’s window for signs of rockets. Sobering!

Jesus warned his hearers of the days coming when the world would be rife with “wars and rumours of wars”. He also knew that whether our sorrows were geopolitical or personal, our hearts would be troubled. So he gently said, “Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”.

If ever there was a time for these comforting words to be spread throughout the world, it is now.
