I was recently informed by our WOW champion ministry in India that the daily Covid infection rate has topped 3 million. This shocking news seems to run against the news from the rest of the world (the West at least) that the Omicron variant is on the wane. Indeed, the EU,UK, and Canada are reported to be using the “endemic” word lately. They are ready to accept that Covid is here to stay and the world must switch from crisis to management  mode. People will continue to contract the virus but sooner than later more may be suffering, even dying, from the collapse of the economy.

This shift in approach was inevitable. The priority in history has always been bread. Humans have remarkable tolerance for disease but none for famine.

I think of the Lord’s Prayer where Jesus said,”Give us this day our daily bread”. It’s the only petition in the prayer that addresses the one fundamental material need vital to physical health and life. We need to have food security. And we should never take it for granted.

The mounting crises of our world are many. But there is no longer a crisis for those who have died from hunger. Let’s remember to be thankful for the Lord’s daily provision.
